NASCAR decides to open itself to more manufactures (hypothetically)

Who do you think would be the first to jump in? I personally think it would be Mercedes, they could use the E-series and already have a strong base of operations here in the states.

Wrong market for Mercedes. I’d say Honda or Dodge.

Dodge plz

As much as I’d love to see the charger back in NASCAR I don’t see FCA putting the money back into it. And Mercedes competes in othere “stock” series around the world, what would make NASCAR not their market?

I don’t see anyone tripping over themselves to join. I don’t think there was a firm prohibition on them joining prior to this. You pay NASCAR the money and you go race. What would be fun? Bentley, Porsche with Panamera.

If NASCAR goes GT3 spec then I’m in.

Mercedes competes in touring car series with other luxury brands. V8SC had the Volvo S60, and Mercedes had minimal involvement. DTM has Audi and BMW.

Nascar is open to any manufacturer afaik as long as they are American. But even that rule is outta the window since they let Toyota in. It’s up to manufacturers to enter.

Also, Tesla.

Something something VW. Something something post-race inspection.

Seriously, though. What about Hyundai or Kia?

If NASCAR goes GT3 spec

I mean, sure, if NASCAR changed absolutely everything, they would have a different fan base.

I don't think most manufacturers see NASCAR as relevant enough to their interests/markets to want to jump in. Not sure. Toyota did, so maybe Honda? Or Hyundai.

Too blue collar for Mercedes. I would expect to see Buick make a return, historically they’ve been successful in the series.

If Mercedes races with Ford and Chevy and Toyota then that means their products compete with Ford and Chevy and Toyota.

Hyundai or Kia.

Some brand with something to prove. With some car the crowds can afford.

I would normally agree, but Merc is now going full-force in the work truck market in the US... it might work. When you also consider how much more downmarket they’ve already gone with the CLA/GLA lately, I would be less surprised today than at any point in their history.

IIRC Toyota loopholed in because the Camry was built in America and NASCAR declared that close enough.

So you’re saying if NASCAR got rid of their “It must be made in the United States” rule?

Honda... Or Subaru? Nah.. Honda.

No luxo companies because NASCAR isn’t their market. At all. And that statement is coming from a NASCAR fan.

Since the race cars don’t have to have anything in common with production models, it could be anyone really.

A car company doesn’t need a V8 engined, RWD, coupe or sedan in their lineup, since the resultant car will be a plastic shell over a tubular frame with decals on the front that vaguely resemble the grille and headlights of the production car who’s model name is emblazoned across the bumper.

I would say Honda or Nissan would be the likeliest targets, especially Nissan, given their push for volume and market share over everything else. I could see an Altima-branded stock car. If it was Honda, they would obviously use the Accord.

Hyundai or Kia would be the next most likely, with the Sonata and Optima. Hyundai wouldn’t use the Genesis now, since its about to become its own brand, and automakers don’t like using their luxury brands in NASCAR.
